JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
1. Masters of Arts Degree in Social Work
Experience:
1. One or more years training and expertise in the areas of family functioning and counseling, child behavior, behavior management, and individual child counseling, or equivalent preferred
Certificates/Licenses:
1. Current Colorado Special Services Provider License with School Social Worker endorsem*nt
2. Valid driver’s license

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides in-service opportunities for District staff on mental health and related subjects to improve students’ opportunities for success
2. Serves as consultant to staff in strategies, including instruction, student behavior, and behavior
management, and development of appropriate social/emotional skills
3. Recommends appropriate interventions for staff for students with mental health concerns
4. Participates as a member of the staffing team or as a support person for the special education
program as appropriate
5. Develops an on-going plan to improve staff understanding of the social/emotional needs of the
disabled child
6. Works with assigned center-based programs to assist staff with serving and addressing students’ mental health concerns
7. Counsels assigned students as appropriate, both individually and in groups
8. Supervises the referral of special education students to various out-of-school agencies as necessary
9. Maintains current case records and files, including evaluations of outcomes in terms of interventions provided
10. Maintains records and completes all information necessary for the District data management system or required by state and federal agencies
11. Conduct assessment, counseling, and conferencing to determine the physical, social, and mental status of the student in a crisis situation
12. Provides services to parents, including counseling to improve relationships within the family,
assistance in securing treatment or service outside the school if needed, parent groups, and
interpretation of the child’s assessed needs, attitude, and capacities
13. Acts as liaison with the Mental Health Center, Department of Social Services, Resource Exchange, Juvenile Probation, Parole, Vocational Rehabilitation, and other agencies for both the family and staffing team
14. Performs tasks at sites within District/community and elsewhere
15 Assists in the development of special education programs and objectives and Individual Educational Plans as requested
16. Implements and provide social-emotional supports to students based on their IEP
17. Models an effective understanding and respect for diversity and inclusion
18. Incorporates legal rights and due process for children with special needs
19. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
20. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
21. Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; taste and smell; and talk and hear. The employee may also need to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to exert average or above average physical effort in the Center Based Special Education programs.
